BEML’s Big Comeback: ₹1,888 Crore Rail Coach Order, Defence Wins & 90 km/h Metro Trials

BEML, the public sector engineering giant, is making headlines once again with major contracts, high-speed metro trials, and bold innovation moves. From winning a ₹1,888 crore order to supply 600 LHB coaches to the Indian Railways to striking new defence and hyperloop partnerships, BEML is scripting a strong comeback across multiple sectors.

Rail Renaissance: ₹1,888 Crore LHB Coach Order

The biggest highlight is BEML’s ₹1,888 crore contract from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to supply 600 modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. These advanced coaches are known for greater safety, durability, and passenger comfort.
This deal marks BEML’s return to large-scale rail coach manufacturing after five years, signaling renewed momentum in India’s railway modernization.

Defence & Hyperloop: Expanding Horizons

BEML has also secured a ₹282 crore order from the Ministry of Defence to deliver high-mobility military vehicles. This strengthens India’s self-reliance in defence equipment.

In another futuristic step, BEML signed an MoU with TuTr Hyperloop, an IIT Madras startup, to co-develop India’s first indigenous hyperloop transport system. This collaboration positions BEML as a key player in next-gen mobility.

High-Speed Metro Trials: Setting New Benchmarks

In Kolkata, BEML’s metro rakes achieved speeds of over 90 km/h during East-West Metro trials. These successful runs highlight the reliability and engineering strength of BEML’s rolling stock, giving urban transport projects a boost of confidence.

Indigenous Innovation: Motor Grader Launch

Adding to its achievements, BEML launched the BG 1205 motor grader, designed indigenously for the mining and construction sector. This innovation reflects the company’s commitment to the Make in India initiative and infrastructure growth.

From mega railway contracts to defence breakthroughs and high-speed metro trials, BEML is clearly staging a strong revival. With a mix of innovation, indigenous manufacturing, and futuristic collaborations, the PSU is not just delivering today but preparing India’s transport and defence sectors for tomorrow.
