PM Modi Inaugurates ₹6,300 Crore Health and Infrastructure Projects in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi ( PM Modi ) recently laid the foundation stones for significant health and infrastructure projects worth ₹6,300 crore in Assam’s Darrang district. This comprehensive development package includes the construction of a new medical college and hospital, nursing and GNM schools, as well as major road and bridge infrastructure that aims to transform the region’s connectivity and healthcare landscape.

Transforming Healthcare in Assam

A key highlight of these projects is the establishment of the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, along with associated nursing institutions. Valued at around ₹570 crore, these projects are designed to expand medical education and healthcare accessibility in Assam, a state that has seen remarkable progress in healthcare infrastructure over recent years. With the addition of this medical college, Assam’s total number of such institutions will increase to 24, significantly boosting the availability of medical seats and healthcare services to the local population.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that over the past decade, India has doubled its number of medical colleges and seats, and Assam is now set to benefit from this nationwide growth. This healthcare upgrade not only improves facilities but also opens up greater opportunities for youth aspiring to enter the medical profession.

Infrastructure Projects to Enhance Connectivity

In addition to healthcare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated major infrastructure projects including the Narengi-Kuruwa bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road. The 2.9 km long bridge, costing approximately ₹1,200 crore, will drastically reduce travel time between Guwahati and Darrang, easing transport and connectivity for thousands of people daily. The ₹4,530 crore Guwahati Ring Road project will further connect multiple national and state highways, an airport, railway stations, and an inland water terminal, establishing Assam’s first seamless multi-modal transport network.

These infrastructure developments will ease traffic congestion, enhance regional mobility, and foster economic growth by improving logistics and accessibility.

Strategic Vision for Assam Growth

PM Modi highlighted Assam’s rise as one of the fastest-growing states in India, currently growing at nearly 13% annually – significantly higher than its past pace. He credited this progress to the combined efforts of the Union and State governments and the hard work of the people of Assam.

Moreover, the projects unveiled not only focus on today’s needs but are designed to prepare Assam for the next 25 to 50 years of development. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced upcoming reforms in GST that will reduce taxes on various goods, including medicines and building materials, which will further benefit the people of Assam. Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to support local industries and buy ‘Made in India’ products, reinforcing the government’s vision of sustainable and inclusive development.

This ambitious ₹6,300 crore package of health and infrastructure projects signals a transformative phase for Assam, promising better connectivity, improved healthcare access, and robust regional development as the state continues to play a vital role in India’s growth story.
