Darwin, August 12, 2025 – (Dewald Brevis Smashes Record) In one of the most explosive T20I innings of all time, South Africa’s rising star Dewald Brevis smashed an unbeaten 125 from 56 balls, leading the Proteas to a comprehensive 53-run victory over Australia in the second T20I at Marrara Stadium. When South Africa was in a bit of trouble at 57/3 in the 8th over, Brevis found a willing partner in Tristan Stubbs (31 from 22 balls). They put on 126 runs for the fourth wicket, changing the momentum of the match, taking South Africa to a strong total of 218/7, their highest-ever T20I total against Australia.

Australian Response Falters

In pursuit of 219, Australia were unable to recover from early wickets and at no stage did they look to threaten. Tim David’s battling 50 was the only shining light in Australia’s 165 all out in 17.4 overs. South Africa’s bowlers led by left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka were on the money and did not let off in a win that lifted morale for their team.

With the series tied, attention now turns to Cairns on August 16, where the decider is sure to provide plenty of drama. For what it’s worth, Brevis will now always remember this innings as the night he officially introduced himself to the world.
